Wilderness Road Ride

The Wilderness Road Ride takes place Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (the last weekend in May). A scenic and historical adventure through southwest Virginia's New River Valley, the ride follows part of the historic Wilderness Road, Daniel Boone's route along the the Appalachians to the Cumberland Gap.

The Wilderness Road Ride offers something for everyone — 4 routes ranging from a relaxed journey for novices, to a challenge for the fittest athlete. All routes start and finish near the Dedmon Center in Radford, adjacent to Bisset Park, on the New River. This is an event for the entire family to enjoy!

Note that for 2008 we are dropping the 78 mile route. By simplifying our logistics we can maximize the quality of the event for everyone. Riders seeking greater challenge than the 58 mile route offers should consider doing Mountains of Misery.

But we'll be adding a 38 mile route. A lot of riders wanted to do more than the 29 mile route, but thought the 58 mile route was too long. For these people, the 38 mile route should be just right!

For 2008 we will also have a different venue for the start/finish area. Because of a construction project, we will not be able to use the Dedmon Center this year. The start/finish area will be moved just up the road to parking lots "E" and "U," in front of the Radford University Facilities Management building. This is on the way in to the Dedmon Center on University Dr., but not as far. So follow the usual directions to the Dedmon Center, but turn left into the parking lots immediately after crossing the bridge.
