Wilderness Road Ride

The Wilderness Road Ride takes place Saturday of Memorial Day weekend (the last weekend in May). A scenic and historic adventure through southwest Virginia's beautiful New River Valley, the ride follows part of the historic Wilderness Road, Daniel Boone's route through the Appalachians to the Cumberland Gap.

The Wilderness Road Ride offers something for everyone — 4 routes ranging from a relaxed journey for novices, to a challenge for the fittest athlete. This is an event for the entire family to enjoy!

For 2008 we are dropping the 78 mile route. By simplifying our logistics we can maximize the quality of the event for everyone. Riders seeking greater challenge than the 58 mile route offers should consider doing Mountains of Misery.

We're adding a 38 mile route. Many riders wanted to do more than the 29 mile route, but thought the 58 mile route was too long. For these people, the 38 mile route should be just right!

For 2008 we will also have a different venue for the start-finish area. Because of a construction project, we will not be able to use the Dedmon Center this year. The start-finish area will be moved just up the road to parking lots "E" and "U." This is on the way to the Dedmon Center on University Dr., but not as far. So follow the usual directions to the Dedmon Center, but turn left into the parking lots immediately after crossing the bridge.

The Routes

Detailed maps and cue sheets will be available at the start of the ride.
